Corridor Study Findings
The Green Line Corridor would connect the city's eastern edge with Ivy Tech, with service seven days a week. The service would speed up travel through more frequent service, a more direct path, and potentially supportive bus priority infrastructure.
Study Findings
Bloomington Transit, in partnership with Foursquare ITP is studying the feasibility of a bus rapid transit (BRT) corridor spanning east-west across the city, primarily on 3rd Street.
The study has reviewed
-
Currently existing infrastucture for traffic, transit, and pedestrians
-
Future development
-
Bloomington Transit priotities and stretegic vision
-
Other Bloomington Transit intiatives, including Transform BT and the 2019 Route Optimization study
The findings shape the proposed design for the Green Line cooridor.
Transit Priorities in the Corridor
Based on market analysis findings, the study team has identified priority areas for current and future service. These point to ideal station locations and potential service frequencies based on population and employment densities.
Public Priorities
In Spring 2024, the study team hosted a survey to assess public relationships with the corridor and their service priorities.
The survey identified frequency, travel time, and reliability as priorities for transit service. Common activities along the corridor included shopping and running errands, living, and social activities; all activities that tend to be distributed throughout the day.
To meet public needs along the corridor, the study team is considering a frequent, all-day transit solution.
Impact on Existing Transit
If implemented, the Green Line would provide a new crosstown service with some overlap to existing routes.
Existing routes would be adjusted to distribute bus coverage around Bloomington more evenly, and a microtransit service would supplement coverage.

Corridor Treatments
The study team is exploring various options for the Green Line corridor, focusing on creating a high-frequency, reliable service.
Different Bus Rapid Transit features are being considered to enhance the service and rider experience. The study team is reviewing the costs and benefits of each option.
